When Harry Met Sally

We're back -  just in time to let old acquaintances be forgot and all that other New Year's Eve business. Before we shed the skin of the craptastic year called 2023 (gross), we are watching the one film we could both think of that features NYE - When Harry Met Sally! The rom-com to end all rom-coms, this 1989 Nora Ephron gem asks if men and women be friends and then answers fairly quickly with a firm "no way, dude". All the while we get to see some iconic Meg Ryan looks, a terrible Carrie Fisher haircut, and Billy Crystal in some incredibly tight pants. Oh yeah and the whole orgasm in the deli thing happens and we revert to our 12 year old selves and melt into puddles of goo and embarrassment.

Scrooged

It's almost Christmas... time to put a little love in your heart or prepare yourself to be visited by three ghosts giving you the business about being a real dick all year. Frankly, you should save yourself the hassle and be a decent human being for once in your life. Jeeze. This week on the podcast affectionately known as ConCon, we are keeping the holiday spirit oozing from our every orifice by watching 1988's Scrooged. Starring pretty much the entire Murray family, plus amazing additions like Carol Kane, Buster Poindexter, Karen Allen, Alfre Woodward and Bobcat Goldthwait this is a holiday must for those who aren't afraid to get a little sassy.

Alliances crumble and friendships falter as Confidently Controversial begins the holiday season with a "Christmas" episode that may or may not be a "Christmas" episode depending on which one of the hosts you ask. Today the ladies are watching 1988's Funny Farm, which firmly spends a chunk of time celebrating Christmas and a few other seasons, but also the Christmas. No matter which side you are on, you will surely agree that this film about a dysfunctional relationship really had no business being embedded on our young beautiful brains.

Well, that was surprisingly quick. And a little hurtful, honestly.
Anyway, today is your lucky day because these four powerhouse comedy minds are coming together for a heartfelt Thanksgiving episode of the Confidently Controversial pod. That's right, it's 1987's Planes, Trains and Automobiles! A Turkey Day tradition for some, this John Hughes film takes the buddy comedy on the road to see what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real.

It's midnight. It's also madness. What else do you need to know? No, really, what else? 1980's Midnight Madness sets five teams loose in the city of Los Angeles overnight to solve clues in what is called The Great All Nighter. Why? Well, I don't really remember why, except this weird dude named Leon who is about to get evicted told them to do it. Oh yeah, and Michael J. Fox is there.

Major League

Yay Sports! In this episode of Confidently Controversial, we've ditched the spooky movies in favor of a film covering a topic we know gobs about, baseball! The 80s and 90s were surprisingly thick with sports films, but only one featured Charlie Sheen getting paid to the wild thing... that's right, it's 1989's Major League! Our old podcast friend Tom Berenger is back and he's brought a ragtag crew, including Corbin Bernsen, Wesley Snipes, and Dennis Haysbert, to lead the Indians to a victory in an unnamed championship game that Emily and Kim are still fighting to name. Oh yeah and Renee Russo's incredible hair is there, too. It may be America's pastime, but these USA ladies struggled, not just with the sports chat, but also with the overt degradation of the Native American culture. Fun!

Terror Firmer w/ Special Guest Will Keenan

Join us for our first live episode as we watch 1999's Terror Firmer with Casey Kaufman himself, Will Keenan! Despite multiple warnings from Will and our ability to do internet research, we watched this Troma Film anyway and we actually kinda liked it. Chock full of guts, gore, boobs, and pickles, this film is at its best delightful in its humor and inclusivity and at its worst a close up shot of a prosthetic vagina that is real angry about something. While we don't get too far into the plot of the movie in our recap, we do have a fantastic convo with Will, hear about his life, and find out what it was like to be part of the Tromaverse.
