Desperately Seeking Susan

Friday Sep 08, 2023

Friday Sep 08, 2023

Turns out choosing a movie based solely on watching the associated music video doesn't work out very well. This week we watch 1985's Desperately Seeking Susan starring Madonna, Rosanna Arquette, Aidan Quinn, Mark Blum and Laurie Metcalf. While the movie isn't the best, the fashion sure is... bring back the bedazzled fold down bootie! After you listen to this week's episode be sure to watch Madonna's Into the Groove video, which basically tells you the whole story, only quicker and with less foolishness.

The Peanut Butter Solution

Friday Aug 25, 2023

Friday Aug 25, 2023

Isn't peanut butter always the solution to life's problems? Maybe, but it might also give you luxurious locks and pubes that just cannot be contained by your pants. This week Emily and Kim watch 1985's The Peanut Butter Solution and boy oh boy, you do not want to miss this one. If the hair thing hasn't made you curious, maybe the ghosts, bad parenting, weird older sister or god awful paintings about birds and tennis will grab ya.

Starring Andrew McCarthy, Jonathan Silverman, and Terry Kiser this classic film makes Kim laugh a lot and causes Emily to question her closest friendship.

The Secret of NIMH

Friday Aug 11, 2023

Friday Aug 11, 2023

If you think you know what to expect from 1982's Secret of NIMH you surely have no idea. NIMH, an acronym for National Institute of Mental Health, is not some far off fantasy land, but a place where animals were tested and rats were TAUGHT HOW TO READ... This animated Don Bluth classic features poor, sad Mrs. Frisby who everyone treats like crap as she attempts to save the life of her sick child, meets a clumsy crow called Jeremy, and hooks up with a rat with BDE. Listen as we explore this frantic tale of adventure, magic(?), and more.

License to Drive

Friday Aug 04, 2023

Friday Aug 04, 2023

Two people brought together by chance who ended up becoming besties... sound familiar? Yes, I am talking about Emily and me, but also about the two Coreys - the focus of this week's Confidently Controversial podcast.
Corey Feldman and Corey Haim were a hallmark of the 80s appearing in 9 films together in their careers and countless shows, commercials, and films individually. As teen heartthrobs they caused a stir, but the pair were marked by fame and rife with controversy as they settled into adulthood. Tune in to learn more about this dynamic duo and one the movies they made: 1988's License to Drive.

Eddie and the Cruisers

Friday Jul 28, 2023

Friday Jul 28, 2023

So, Eddie in the Cruisers is a movie about a band that sings songs that you probably thought were by Bruce Springsteen. The End.
Ok, ok, ok, on this week’s episode of Confidently Controversial Emily shares one of her family faves, 1983’s Eddie and the Cruisers. Starring bad lip syncer Michael Pare, hotsy totsy Tom Berenger, cranky Ellen Barkin, and David Silver’s dad Matthew Laurance, this is a film where not too much happens, but it takes a long time to do so. Swing by to see if you can solve the mystery of what the heck happened to Eddie. Where is he? Who is he with? Is he thinking of me?

Friday Jul 21, 2023

Stop by to see how this adventure comedy holds up and if the stress of a child hanging off a skyscraper pushes us over the edge. Ya think?
