Sneak up on it. Step 2: Ghost punch your bestie. Step 3: Find Whoopi Goldberg. Step 4. Avenge Step 5. Ceramics, probably. Our research is not extensive or validated, but we did watch 1990's Ghost on the pod this week, so yeah, we are pretty much experts.

Oh man, never meet your heroes, huh? This week on Confidently Controversial we are watching 1992's Singles, the movie that helped welcome grunge to the mainstream by introducing the world to the beautiful human that is Eddie Vedder and gave us one of the best movie soundtracks of all time. Unfortunately, that might be all it has and we now have a better understanding as to why you don't see this movie around much anymore. Big stars abound in this one though... Bridget Fonda, Campbell Scott, Matt Dillon and Kyra Sedgwick come together to tell us mildly interesting series of relationship stories set in Seattle. Cool, man, cool.

Why were we so obsessed with orphans in the 80s? Webster, those Rags to Riches children, and of course, the most famous orphan of all, Ms. Bet Your Bottom Dollar, You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile. That's right ladies and gentleman, we needed some frigging sunshine and we just couldn't wait until tomorrow - so we're watching the 1982 musical that is chock full of bangers, gross dogs, and awkwardly named caregivers... we're looking at you Daddy Warbucks. Three Men & a Baby

We're renaming this week's episode "a study of chest hair in three parts" and we advise you to tune in and pay close attention. I mean, what the heck was happening here, folks? Was it something in the water? A particularly delicious crop of peppers? An extremely potent tonic? No matter the cause, we definitely see why our moms liked this movie so much. Join us as we watch Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg fumble through a job that women are just somehow supposed to know all about - parenthood. That's right, it's Three Men & A Baby.

Real Genius

Remember that time in school when you were asked to use your superior intellect to craft a weapon of mass destruction for the government? Yeah, us too. You'd be shocked at the number of times writers get asked for scathing rhetoric that can be used to weaken the will of foreign nations. For realsies... Anyway, all that lying aside, this week we are watching 1985's Real Genius, starring a man born to wear boxer shorts, Mr. Val Edward Kilmer and some other folks that didn't too much, except for the absolute star who plays Lazlo and went on to be the one, the only, Uncle Rico. Lucky! 

Flowers in the Attic

Ah, the 80's, a beautiful time when books for young adults were chock full of batshit crazy things and our parents were just happy we were quiet and reading in another room. This week on the pod, Emily and Kim are watching the 1987 drama Flowers in the Attic, a movie based on a book that takes bad parenting and family trauma to the next level, struggles with it and pushes it off a balcony. Starring the original Buffy, Kristy Swanson, Steve Martin's ex-wife, and the lady from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest this film is sure to make you feel uncomfortable around your brother and  probably stop you from eating cookies for a while. 

Steel Magnolias

If you want to hear two middle aged ladies ugly cry on the radio, you've come to the right place! This week on Con Con we're watching 1989's Steel Magnolias and boy oh boy did we have a tough time. Starring Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine, Tom Skeritt, and Dylan McDermott this movie explores female friendship, mother/daughter relationships, and the bond between two besties even if one of them is kind of a jerk. Mommie Dearest

Guys, guys, guys... If you haven't, you definitely should. Holy Toledo, what a ride. 1981's Mommie Dearest tells the possibly true, possibly fabricated story of Hollywood icon Joan Crawford from the POV of her adopted daughter Christina and it's like seriously bananas. This much-discussed, highly adored (and mocked) movie has become the guide for all things campiness, ensuring you will never look at dry cleaning or a dirty bathroom the same way. "Tina, bring me the axe!"
