Starring bad lip syncer Michael Pare, hotsy totsy Tom Berenger, cranky Ellen Barkin, and David Silver’s dad Matthew Laurance, this is a film where not too much happens, but it takes a long time to do so. Swing by to see if you can solve the mystery of what the heck happened to Eddie. Where is he? Who is he with? Is he thinking of me?

She-Devil

She's the devil in disguise... oh yes she is. Is she though? Like really? Or is she a woman who has been lied to, cheated on, and made to feel like she doesn't matter? Huh, society? What about that? Anyway, this week on Confidently Controversial we are watching a movie that kinda helped us form the idea for this crazy little pod, 1989's She-Devil, starring Meryl Streep, Rosanne Barr, and Ed Begley, Jr. Turns out, this movie might be an iconic feminist masterpiece and we just all wrote it off as a silly little tale of revenge. It's campy, it's weird, it's a little bit fun and not terrible - come watch with us!

Romancing the Stone

Is Michael Douglas hot? We gotta be honest, even after watching peak Douglas trapse through the jungle without sleeves for days and days, we still can't really come up with a definitive answer. We did, however, rewrite the theme song to this movie and it is a hit. Won't you join us as we watch Kathleen Turner (who Emily hates for some reason), the aforementioned Michael Douglas, and underutilized talent Danny DeVito in 1984's Romancing the Stone. It's not as great as you remember. Fair warning.

The Breakfast Club

Somehow we recorded this episode like two days before The Breakfast Club kids celebrated the 40 year anniversary of their big Saturday detention. March 24, 1984. I want to tell you we did it on purpose, but you know us by now and you know that this is simply not true. We are messy and it was a total accident. Either way, 40 years. Rough. You will like the ep though, we recorded it on vacay. So definitely listen and pretend we have our shit together.

The Muppets Take Manhattan

What are the Muppet rules? Do they know they are Muppets? Can they have relationships with any species? Is it okay that some of them are naked most of the time or is Kermit just a weirdo? We don't really answer any of these questions on this week's episode of Confidently Controversial, but we do watch 1984's The Muppets Take Manhattan and talk a lot about the genius of Jim Henson. And we also give ourselves anxiety about sore throats and stuff. Tune in, you'll love it.

So, you've recently become a ghost and you aren't sure what to do? Well, you've come to the right place...Step 1: For the love of Pete, try to get back in your body. Lay on it. Hover over it. Sneak up on it. Step 2: Ghost punch your bestie. Step 3: Find Whoopi Goldberg. Step 4. Avenge Step 5. Ceramics, probably. Our research is not extensive or validated, but we did watch 1990's Ghost on the pod this week, so yeah, we are pretty much experts.

Oh man, never meet your heroes, huh? This week on Confidently Controversial we are watching 1992's Singles, the movie that helped welcome grunge to the mainstream by introducing the world to the beautiful human that is Eddie Vedder and gave us one of the best movie soundtracks of all time. Unfortunately, that might be all it has and we now have a better understanding as to why you don't see this movie around much anymore. Big stars abound in this one though... Bridget Fonda, Campbell Scott, Matt Dillon and Kyra Sedgwick come together to tell us mildly interesting series of relationship stories set in Seattle. Cool, man, cool.

Why were we so obsessed with orphans in the 80s? Webster, those Rags to Riches children, and of course, the most famous orphan of all, Ms. Bet Your Bottom Dollar, You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile. That's right ladies and gentleman, we needed some frigging sunshine and we just couldn't wait until tomorrow - so we're watching the 1982 musical that is chock full of bangers, gross dogs, and awkwardly named caregivers... we're looking at you Daddy Warbucks.
