Well, Emily is back on her bullsh*t... In our first and possibly last Christmas episode of the season, we're watching a fanciful fever dream of a film - 1985's Dudley Moore vehicle - Santa Claus: The Movie. Inexplicably, a British fave, this movie struggles to find it's plot and may have been written by someone who has never seen a movie before. All that being said, bravo to the set designer of the film - they really went for it and by it we mean all of it. No expense spared, no color unused.

Guys, I feel like we don't say this very often on this podcast, but you know what? In the spirit of the holiday season, we are going to do it today. By golly, we love this movie so so so so so so so much. You'll be able to detect our affinity for it by all the crying we do in the second half of the episode. It's just wonderful and sometimes you need that, you know? Life is kinda hard, and the cold weather makes you sad, and the darkness is so, well... dark and you're just tired. So tired. And every now and again you need to watch a movie that leaves you feeling nice and sparkly on the inside and makes you smile and sigh and scream BOOOOOOO at all your friends and family for the rest of the week. So yeah, this is The Princess Bride from 1987 and we like it. A lot.

All you Rocky gals are going to be pumped for this week's episode! What? THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A ROCKY GIRL?!?! I mean, yeah obviously and yet, inexplicably, Emily brought Rocky IV to the podcast this week. We went ahead and watched it, but we don't have many nice things to say about the experience and we are ladies who love a good montage. I found it highly unbelievable that anyone on earth cares this much about boxing, Emily disagrees. Come hear about that and James Brown and people wearing jeans for the wrong activities - AGAIN!

Much like the sand we have in our jeans from wearing them to the beach, this movie made us very uncomfortable. In this episode, we dive into 1991's The Doors biopic - a chaotic swirl of psychedelics, Native American imagery, drug-fueled egos, and whatever Oliver Stone thought subtlety was, this film has everything and nothing all at once. We unpack Val Kilmer’s wild-eyed performance as Jim Morrison/Ron Burgandy, the film’s questionable choices with casting, run time, story, and why this movie feels more like a fever dream than a good time. Yay.

Goodbye spooky season, hello movie musicals! Our regularly scheduled programming is back and this week we are watching John Water’s 1988 mainstream madness movie - Hairspray. While certainly not the best movie we’ve ever seen and likely not the segregation solving saga he imagined, at least it introduced us and the world to Divine and we like that.

gHoUls. GhOsTs. dRY bOnES. Happy Halloween and welcome to our final sPoOky episode of season 4! This week we are putting on our under-eye patches, sliding into our Spanx, and settling in to watch 1992's Death Becomes Her. And spoiler alert, guys. We loved it. A lot. Like, so much. I mean, you have to love a movie that boldly calls out America's obsession with looking and staying young a full 30 years before people are literally getting new faces - we see you KJ. Plus, it's filled with Hollywood's heaviest of hitters - Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Bruce Willis, Isabella Rosellini, and, of course, Fabio.

Is it funny? Sure. Is it scary? Also, sure. But you wanna know what it is most of all? Kinda gross. The werewolf transformation is not something you want to get involved in. Your clothes are ruined. Your skin is busted. Your nails? Forget about it. And all the Hair, Skin and Nails in the world isn't going to fix your problem. Guys, we are watching 1981's An American Werewolf in London.

What's that you say? An 80's teen drama, but they're vampires? AND they love Jim Morrison? AND the grandpa from Gilmore Girls is the head vamparino? ANNNNDDD this movie is somehow a homage to Peter Pan, and we only just realized it? Where do I send my money?
Great news, friends - on this week's episode of Confidently Controversial we're watching 1987's The Lost Boys. It's got Keifer Sutherland, it's got Bill S. Preston, Esquire, it's got not one, but two Coreys, and best of all it's got the inexplicably not more famous, but super lovely Jason Patrick.
You're gonna love it, Michael.

Well, would you look at that... season 4 of Confidently Controversial is back on the very same day that sweet baby angel Taylor Swift releases her new album. Many would say it is merely a coincidence, but true Swifties know that nothing in Tay's world happens by chance, and everything means something. What does this mean? Well, if you don't know then I certainly cannot help you, but you should probably listen to the whole episode for clues and share it with your friends just to be sure.
Anyway, hi! We're back and we're kicking off this season with our spoOoKy Halloween episodes. First up, it's 1984's Nightmare on Elm Street. A movie where we see Johnny Depp debut his incredible dimples, French kiss a telephone, and brush up on our dream skills. You'll love it.
